ANNOUNCING THE SIXTH AFRICAN CONFERENCE ON CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT WITH FOCUS ON EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION
We are delighted to invite you to attend the VIth African Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect with focus on Early Childhood Development and Education which will be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from the 4th to 6th May 2009. The conference is being organized by ANPPCAN Ethiopia and ANPPCAN Head Office in partnership with ISPCAN, UNICEF Ethiopia, Oak Foundation, Save the Children Alliance in Ethiopia, Plan Ethiopia, Action Aid Ethiopia, Fredskorpset, Italian Development Cooperation and other government and non government organizations.
Early Childhood is the foundation for overall human development. It is a period when human beings cultivate a culture of tolerance, respect and mutual understanding. It is an important period for socialization. Early Childhood Development is also a critical period for the development of healthy and responsible citizens and therefore requires special care and attention. Despite this known fact, the issue of Early Childhood Development and Education has not been given the care and attention it deserves by concerned child protection parties in Africa.
This Conference provides a unique opportunity for children, parents, teachers, educators, administrators, child care providers, policymakers, researchers and all those concerned to foremost share experiences and evidence-based practices in early childhood care and education; share information to guide positive policy and intervention program development on early childhood development and education; examine challenges and opportunities for early childhood development and education practices in Africa and lastly, explore opportunities for cross-sectoral cooperation in regard to early childhood development and education.
The conference will offer participants opportunities to learn innovative approaches to the subject and share well-tried-evidence-based best practices. Invited experts will be highlighting latest developments and directions that can guide policies and practices in Early Childhood Development and Education.
