MAIN INTERVENTION AREAS Child Protection ANPPCAN-Ethiopia provides both prevention and rehabilitation services for cases of Child Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation. It operates a Child Helpline which provides medical, counseling, legal and family reunification services for victims of child abuse. It also provides school support and tutorial services for disadvantaged girls. For out of school Children, ANPPCAN-Ethiopia provides opportunities for vocational training in recognized institutions. Awareness Raising and Advocacy on Child Rights, HTP and HIV/AIDS ANPPCAN-Ethiopia increases public awareness on child rights through workshops and trainings, printed materials including a quarterly newsletter, pictorial booklets, posters and billboards, electronic media including radio and TV programs. Based on specific studies ANPPCAN-Ethiopia undertakes such advocacy interventions as making child rights a part of school text books, adoption of alternative methods of child discipline in schools, child care institutions and within the family. Capacity Building of Child Protection ANPPCAN-Ethiopia builds the capacity of child protection structures including school child rights clubs, parent-teacher's associations, CRC Committees, Idirs (CBOs), Child Protection Units in police stations (CPUs). Children's Parliament and child rights activities through trainings and technical and material supports. Child Participation The child participation intervention of ANPPCAN-Ethiopia includes 400 school child rights clubs with membership of over 30,000 children, Children's Parliaments in 3 sub-cities of Addis Ababa. ANPPCAN-Ethiopia has a children's magazine 'Children's Voice' prepared by children for children. The Day of the African Child is celebrated in all its project offices where children are the main actors. Children are involved in project preparation implementation and monitoring and evaluation in all project offices of ANPPCAN-Ethiopia. Right based Development programs ANPPCAN-Ethiopia undertakes right based development programs benefiting children and women. The programs address the rights of children for survival and development and underlying factors of marginalisation of children and women. |
